Riches to Rags: Arrested Development

After watching Arrested Development, finally here is a comedy that matches up to the likes of Seinfeld, Friends in terms of originality and the humour. Arrested Development is one of the comedies around and should get you hooked from the get go.

Arrested Development was premiered on the 2nd of November 2003 and lasted 10th of February 2006. In the 3 season run, the series received six Emmy Awards, one Golden Globe, copious critical acclaim, and a cult fan base.

The story is of the Bluth family. The Bluth family is a rich and affluent family on the brink of troubles they never imagined, that is all except George Bluth Sr. George Bluth Sr is celebrating his retirement when he is arrested and charged with everything from fraud to treason. That is where the series starts - and so does the fun.

List of Characters in the Show:
Micheal Bluth (Jason Bateman) - who strives to do the right thing and keep his family together, despite their materialism, selfishness, and manipulation.
Lindsay Bluth Fünke (Portia de Rossi) - a flamboyant and materialistic, continually desiring to be the center of attention and attracted to various social causes.
George Oscar "G.O.B." Bluth II (Will Arnett) - is the eldest Bluth son and the father of Steve Holt. He is an unsuccessful professional magician whose business and personal schemes usually fail.
George Micheal Bluth (Micheal Cera) - is the young teenage son of Michael Bluth. He is a student, and is in love with his cousin Maeby
Meaby Fünke (Alia Shawkat) - The ever-rebellious teen. The polar opposite of her cousin George Micheal - skipping school, cheating on homework, and stealing money from the family's banana stand business.
Byron "Buster" Bluth (Tony Hale) - is unstable, socially inept, and prone to panic attacks.
Tobias Fünke (David Cross) - a discredited psychiatrist, aspiring actor, and "never-nude", whose language and behavior have homosexual connotations.
George Bluth Sr.(Jeffrey Tambor) - is the former CEO of the Bluth Company, which markets and build mini-mansions, among other activities.
Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walter) - is equally manipulative, as well as materialistic, and hypercritical of every member of her family.

Despite the thorough approval from critics, Arrested Development never climbed it's ratings. The final series aired four hour episodes of the third season in a block as a two-hour series finale. A petition by fans has been set up calling for a Christmas Special in 2009.

Arrested Development is now release on DVD.
