Better Back Up Your Favourite DataWhen it comes to your data, “better safe than sorry” approach will do you a lot of good. While companies stand to lose millions of dollars, individuals may risk losing their jobs or precious memories due to data loss situations. Therefore, backing up your data regularly is an absolute must. Five Types of Data That I would Backup Regularly There are certain types of data that are extremely important to me. Either the data is of professional importance or the data has special memories attached to me. I cannot even imagine losing this type of professional or personal data. Therefore, I make it a point to backup this data on a regular basis. Poems Penned by Me I have a habit of penning poems whenever I get the time. These are usually inspired by the situations I am in at that point in my life. I tend to pen poems when I am travelling, waiting for an appointment, or just lazing around in the house. These poems have a unique emotional significance in my life. Reading any of my poems transports me back in time when I wrote the poem. While it is fun to read my poems, it also helps me analyse my state of mind when I wrote the poem. There are times when I gain powerful insights after reading my poem. If I wrote a poem in a state of depression, then being in a state of happiness while reading that poem again helps me feel blessed about the current state of circumstances. Therefore, losing any of these poems would mean losing all the precious memories associated with these poems. I make it a point to backup these poems on a USB drive. In addition, I also mail these poems across to myself on my email so that I have a backup of the backup. Travel Photos Who does not like a good vacation once in a while? I certainly look forward to all the vacations with my family, or my friends. I am always so excited about these trips that I start taking mental pictures of the holiday destination in my mind even before we reach the destination! Taking vacation photographs is my hobby as well as my need. I need to capture each special moment of my vacation because it has an emotional significance in my life. I tend to view my vacation pictures over and over again long after the vacation is over. Therefore, backing up my travel photographs regularly is an important activity for me. I backup my pictures on CDs and make multiple copies of these CDs since CDs are very prone to wear and tear. Videos Watching personal videos is one of my favourite pastimes. Videos of my high school events, vacations, and marriage cheer me up every time I watch them. Whereas my high school videos make me feel like a teenager again, my vacation videos tend to instantly transport me to my travel destination. These videos can never be recreated and therefore, they hold a special place in my heart. There are times when my husband and I watch our marriage and vacation videos together and relive the memories together. It is one of my favourite ways to make an evening more romantic. I make it a point to backup these videos regularly because losing them will be an absolute nightmare. Music Files I am an ardent music lover and all my music files are extremely precious to me. I started downloading songs when I was just a teenager and my song collection is something that I boast about to my friends very often. I have taken pains to categorise my music files according to my mood as well as genre. I know exactly which music files folder to open when I am feeling low or ecstatic. Therefore, years of hard work have gone into creating and maintaining these music files. I backup my music files on a bi-weekly basis. I mostly tend to backup my music files onto a CD or DVD and always create a backup of the backup copy. Office Work Done at Home I believe office work done at home is more susceptible to damage than office work done at the office. Office network connections are more secure and there are little or no chances of you having your lunch or dinner at your desk. Therefore, food and drink spills are a more common occurrence while working from home. I backup my office work regularly on a USB drive, which keeps data loss hazards at bay.
